DESIGN LIBRARY
About the Designs
The range of designs within the library gives a fascinating insight into the changes in fashions that have occurred in Australian design over the course of even a few decades from the 1960’s to the 1990’s – from the daring, boldly coloured florals of the 60’s, the retro geometrics of the 70’s, the wild fashions of the 80’s and beyond. Restoration wallpapers, borders and frieze designs that were used in many notable historic houses and government buildings sit alongside contemporary fashion prints designed and printed in Australia for some of the country’s most iconic fashion houses. Many of the most popular and enduring design styles are represented including art nouveau, art deco, chinoiserie, as well as some true ‘Australiana’.
